The model of scientific publication in Latin America has been characterized by being Open Access and academy owned. Nevertheless, it is a region that has an unequal participation and contribution in the scientific dialogue since some countries are dominant and have higher participation percentages.

With the aim of contributing on improving this situation, the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico, through Redalyc and AmeliCA and in collaboration with the University of Panama, has developed the Digital Collection of Academic Journals of AmeliCA – Central America, with the goal of giving visibility, position and strengthen the editorial processes of the scientific journals of Central America since it has been observed that this region has a low participation in the indexing and dissemination systems of academic and scientific information.

One of the main advantages of the Digital Collection of Academic Journals of AmeliCA – Central America is that it uses the technology of the publication based on XML JATS that allows all journals of the collection to publish the same reading products that are generated from the XML JATS obtained from the tagging. In this way, every article published in the journals of the collection can be checked in different formats according to the user’s necessities or preferences: PDF, HTML, ePub, computer viewer or  a special viewer for mobile devices or smart tablets.

In addition, the XML JATS provides the suitable metadata so that journals that are part of the Digital Collection of Academic Journals of AmeliCA – Central America can be retrieved by search engines and indexers, which contributes to the integration and better positioning of these journals in the regional and global scientific dialogue, ensuring their inclusion and consolidation.
